Day 22 At Sea
With lectures and film presentations to complete our Antarctic experience, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the magic of the South Atlantic Ocean and the life that calls it home. There is time for reflection and discussion about what we have seen and experienced. We hope you become ambassadors for the Antarctic region, telling your family, friends, and colleagues about your journey to this magical part of the planet, advocating for its conservation and preservation so that they might one day visit the region to experience what you have been lucky to see and do here.
As we approach the tip of South America, our Captain may sail close to legendary Cape Horn, weather and time permitting.
Well, this was pretty much a wind-down day. A session on procedures for tomorrow. A last trip to the gym. A hilarious and very successful auction run by Gaby to raise money for two charities - South Georgia Heritage Trust and Oceanites (penguin counters). Then a final wrap-up session to recognize all the teams and crew that made our trip possible. We had 106 passengers and about an equal number of staff supporting us. Jarryd, our photographer, put together a slide show summarizing the trip. He's done a great job of it. Apparently we'll be receiving a link to it in a few weeks. A final dinner, and time to pack our suitcases.
It got a bit rockier this afternoon, but we should be in the Beagle Channel shortly so we should be in for a calmer night. Things start to happen at 6am tomorrow morning. Breakfast at 6:30 and we start leaving the ship by about 8. All good things must come to an end........
